New pages added include Listed Buildings and a 5 day weather forecast for Southampton. Check out the Sotonians of Note page, there are now 19 entrants.  Calshot Spit lightship at Ocean Village has been added to the Landmarks in the City page. Try out the thought provoking City Vision Southampton link on the Planning and Environmental page on this site to see the current major developments of IKEA, the French Quarter and Ocean Village. A new page, Trees v New Developments has been added. Our programme of speakers for 2009/10 has been added to the Meetings and Events page and we also feature other talks etc from other local groups.

We are an independent non political civic society with members from all walks of life who care about the past and heritage of this famous port city and its future, encouraging good design practice and amenities for its citizens.

We monitor major developments, planning applications regarding conservation areas, listed buildings and open spaces. Outside of London we have the largest area of parks, commons and green areas.

The city hosts a Crown Court, the HQ of Ordnance Survey and of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. Southampton is a premier port  of the import and export of vehicles and Britain's leading cruise ship base. Solent Sky Museum has a fine selection of aircraft, marking the lead in aircraft development including the Spitfire fighter aircraft and the City Art Gallery has a collection of repute plus a maritime museum. A short trip out of the city you find the New Forest National Park.

We have a fast rail link to London and branch lines to Portsmouth, Bristol and Cardiff. The city has two motorway links to the M3 and M27, two universities, Southampton Airport located in neighbouring Eastleigh, theatres, cinemas, night clubs, casinos, a very fine municipal golf course and a National Express coach link.  We also host the world famous Boat Show.

Harbour House Grade II  Town Quay [now a casino], image courtesy Jainbow flickr.com acts as our masthead image. The city's historic buildings merge with modern counterparts and we encourage sympathetic design of new buildings in this vibrant city.

JavaScript is used on certain features and should be enabled and the Isaac Watts, [Sotonians of Note],  Queen Victoria / QE II / QM II  and the Memory Lane pages have audio links. You may prefer to disengage the audio button on your monitor if viewing in a public library.
