Royal South Hants Hospital Chapel

Jesus Chapel Church, St Mary Extra, Pear Tree
The church dates from 1628 and is the oldest Anglican church in the world. It was damaged in WWII. In the churchyard is a headstone in memory of Richard Parker, a cabin boy. Parker  was killed by fellow crew members when after a shipwreck they were many days in an open boat without food or water. Parts of his body were eaten  by his starving crew mates later leading to a famous Victorian trial at the Old Bailey.

The Cenotaph Southampton

Designed by Luytens, it pre-dates the London cenotaph in Whitehall but features of the design were to be incorporated in the London version. Each Remembrance Sunday, civic dignitaries, members of the armed forces, clergy and the general public lay wreaths of poppies.
