Our annual June outdoor visit this year was on a hot sunny day to the Waterworks at Twyford. Our hosts were Graham Feldwick and his son Matthew of the TWW Trust.

On arrival we were welcomed by cups of tea/coffee then set out on a most interesting and informative tour. Southern Water still use part of the site but the Trust holds the lease for the majority of the site. We even came across a Green Goddess fire engine  which they kindly store for one of their members. The site contains an old chalk quarry and we heard of the interesting process where chalk was fed into lime kilns which then was used to soften the water supply [the hardness caused originally by the chalk!].
Then we drove to The Phoenix at Twyford where Paul the landlord had kindly reserved a table so we could sit as a group and we sampled fine food and beer.
Bruce Larner CoSS and FoSOC member has kindly allowed us to use his images of the visit.
